Do other apps see my pictures?
No. Whatever is in the vault, Tresory stores only in its own app folder. Your gallery and the Files app do not show it. A picture only leaves the vault when you explicitly share it or save it back to your gallery.
Isn't hiding photos in the gallery enough?
Better not. Hiding protects against prying eyes in the Photos app, but doesn’t really remove the images: they stay stored in the photo library, sit in the “Hidden” album and are often still synced with the cloud. Hiding can also be bypassed via a computer.
Tresory keeps images in its own folder, separate from the gallery and iCloud Photos. Good to know: if you delete the originals from the gallery via Tresory, on iPhone they stay there for another 30 days under “Recently Deleted”. Android deletes them permanently. The statements about Apple features refer to iOS 26 and may change.
Do my photos end up in the cloud?
It depends on what you want. You need an account for Tresory. The Cloud Vault backs up your photos and documents securely encrypted on servers in Germany, so you can bring them back on a new device. The cloud for offloading and saving storage space is optional and can be switched off. The Cloud Vault backs up videos from the first paid subscription onwards (Plus, Pro, Max), if you want that; on the Basic plan they stay on the device only.
Can I nest albums inside each other and share them?
Yes. Albums can be nested as deeply as you like, and an album can contain sub-albums and pictures at the same time. The album page shows everything as a list or as tiles, as you prefer. To share, you can invite people by their username, to view or to contribute. If the album has sub-albums, Tresory asks you whether to share them too; the person can accept everything with a single invitation. If you later create a new sub-album inside a shared album, Tresory asks whether it should be shared with the same people.
What is the security album?
An album that additionally opens only with Face ID or fingerprint (if turned on in Settings) or your PIN, and does so anew every time after you have left it. What is inside appears nowhere else: not under “All items”, not in favorites, not in the selection for chats. It cannot be shared or deleted, only its contents can. It is backed up in the Cloud Vault like your other albums.
How is my data encrypted?
Transmission is encrypted with TLS, and data is stored with the high security standard AES-256 on servers in Germany, in your private area. All the details are in the privacy policy.
Why Tresory instead of Snapchat or another messenger?
Because Tresory is built for privacy, not for reach. In Tresory, a one-time photo can be opened exactly once, screenshots are blocked while it is open, and an unopened photo expires after 7 days. And photos arrive in high quality: in high resolution, not squeezed down to preview size as in many messengers. The files are stored on servers in Germany, and European data protection law applies. There is no advertising and no tracking, no feed and no public profiles: only people who know your username can find you, and they do not see your email address. Anyone who bothers you gets blocked or reported. And everything stays behind PIN and Face ID.
Is a one-time photo already on the recipient's device before it is opened?
You can decide that yourself as the sender, for each chat. “Fast” is the default: the photo is downloaded in the background as soon as it arrives and opens instantly. Until it is tapped, it stays invisible in the temporary storage and is deleted after viewing. With “More Secure”, the server only releases your photo when the recipient taps it; before that, nothing of it is on their device, and opening takes a second or two. In both cases it can only be opened once. No system can prevent someone from photographing the screen with a second camera, though.
Are there group chats?
Yes. You can write in a group with up to 64 people and send photos, documents, voice messages and one-time photos. New members only see messages from when they joined, and anyone who leaves gets nothing new. Admins manage the group and can also invite people who are not your friends.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
On the lock screen, you can tap “Forgot PIN?”, sign in with your account and set a new PIN. This only works with exactly the account the vault belongs to.
What is the emergency email?
A second email address that you can save under Settings › General › Account. If you lose access to your mailbox, you can use it to get back into your account after a 7-day wait. It does not reset your PIN.
What is the decoy vault?
A second, separate vault with its own PIN. If you have to open the app in front of someone, you can enter the decoy PIN and show harmless pictures. The decoy vault has no connection to the account and stays on the device only.
Can I also store PDF and Word files?
Yes. Besides photos and videos, you can also keep PDF, Word, Excel, Numbers and Pages files in the vault, plus other formats such as CSV, Markdown and ZIP. You can also scan documents directly in the vault and share them as PDF.
Is Tresory available for the computer too?
At launch, Tresory is available for iPhone, iPad and Android. A desktop version for the computer will follow later.
How much does Tresory cost?
The app and 1 GB in the Cloud Vault are free. More space comes with a subscription: Plus with 50 GB for €2.99 per month, Pro with 200 GB for €6.99 and Max with 1 TB for €14.99 per month. With a yearly subscription, we give you two months: €29.99, €69.99 or €149.99 per year. All prices are in euros including VAT; depending on your country, the store may show a different price. The subscription renews automatically and can be cancelled at any time in the App Store or on Google Play. With the free version you can use Tresory on 2 devices, with Plus on 3, with Pro on 5 and with Max on 10. Videos in the Cloud Vault and the Pro editor are available to you with a subscription. There is no advertising and no tracking.
Can I try Tresory first?
Yes. On first launch, you can choose “Try the demo first” and explore sample albums and sample documents, without any account. Your own pictures are not affected.
